ShelterBox distributes tents in Jacmel, Haiti

ShelterBox Response Team members Tom Newman and Greg Rogers have been distributing tents in Jacmel. They distributed 250 ShelterBoxes in the area which is on the south of the island.

ShelterBox Head of Operations, John Leach said: ‘We are continuing to spread our net beyond Port au Prince . A newly arrived two man team comprising of Greg Rogers (UK) and Tom Newman (UK) headed south to Jacmel. They’ve wasted no time in assessing needs and setting up the first camps. Tom, who is on his first deployment, has been doing a great job in running logistics from Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and now has his chance to get out in the field.’

ShelterBox tents in Haiti put to immediate use

ShelterBox tents are being used by hospitals in Port au Prince to provide emergency shelter for post surgery patients in Haiti’s capital.

The first ShelterBoxes to arrive in the country have been immediately utilised by doctors in desperate need of equipment to help treat huge numbers of injured Haitians.

The Response Team in Haiti are facing huge challenges on a daily basis. Large aftershocks were felt first thing this morning Hatian time but the team report they are all ok.

ShelterBox Response Team member Mark Pearson, who has been in Port au Prince since Thursday, said: ‘The first tents are being used by Bernard Mews hospital in Port au Prince. The tents have been immediately put into use by doctors for post surgery patients.

A shout out for my new friend, Scott Bonnell

I have a new friend, Scott Bonnell who is the Director of Most High Ministries and the Founder of “Hope to Haiti“. Scott is fellow Rotarian and stumbled on this blog. His current efforts are focused on St Marc, Gonaives and Gros Morne, Haiti. He has been to Cite Soleil and Cabaret. He contacted me to find out where is the “Hotel Montana” that I have stayed at. The Hotel Montana is a great hotel to stay in Port-Au-Prince. I have stayed there twice. I always see aid workers and government people and embassy people etc there. Safe place to stay and nice.

I just want to point out that Scott and I have some things in common – we both belong to Rotary International and we both have a passion for helping the people in Haiti.

I am proud to have a new friend who shares my views. Most High Ministries ”Hope to Haiti Project” was launched in 2007. Most High Ministries is committed to creating abundance business models in Haiti. They are providing resources, micro-loans, training and opportunities that will empower and enable Haitians to lift themselves out of poverty.
